History of BLAGO

BLAGO Fund is the USA and Serbia based non-profit organization. It was formed in 1998 by the Serbian Unity Congress under the great patrononage of HRH CP Alexander Karageorgevich and His Grace Bishop Jovan of Western America Diocese (later Sumadija, Serbia). The goal of the BLAGO Fund is to preserve and promote Serbian treasures in a way that ties together the past, present and future. It has two clear objectives: (1) record, archive and conserve the most vulnerable products of our culture in a systematic and organized way, and (2) to to encourage and support the development of exceptional Serbian talent.

2015

Completed Studenica Monastery.

2009

Created an archive of the Studenica Monastery main church.

BLAGO photograph Christ Pantocrator Carrying the Sword from Decani Monastery published in Russian magazine FOMA, a Russian Christian Orthodox monthly.

BLAGO photograph of Herod's Feast from the church of the Virgin at Patriarchate of Pec published in Greek scientific journal Deltion tes Christianikes Archaeologikes Etaireias, vol. 31 (2009).

Porf Dr Marko Jaric Fund award for the scientific achievements in physics for 2008 awarded to Prof. dr Vladimir Dobrosavljevic, Florida State University at Tallahassee & National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Tallahassee.

2008

Various photographs donated to publisher KLETT for the sixth grade history textbook.

About 200 pictures from various places donated to publisher Platoneum for "Serb world heritage" book sponsored by the Serbian Ministry of culture.

In 2008 archives of churches in Lipljan, Vaganes, Temnica and Velika Hoca were made, as well as a number of QTVR movies of other monuments in Kosovo and Metohija.

Copies of 35mm slide deposited with Princenton University and Dumbarton Oaks Library in Washington.

Signed letter of understanding and cooperation with Serbian Academy of Science.

2007

Patriarchate of Pec complex with four churches and narthex was archived in July of 2007. Cannon EOS 1Ds Mark 2 and 5D were used for digital and VR photography.

2006

Prof Dr Marko Jaric Fund award for the scientific achivements in physics for 2005 awarded to Prof. dr Milan Damnjanovic.

2005

Monastery Decani, the masterpiece of the Serbian medeval heritage in Kosovo and Metohija was archived in August of 2005.

Prof Dr Marko Jaric Fund award for the scientific achievements in physics for 2004 awarded to prof. dr Nemanja Kaloper and prof. dr Zoran Petrovic.

2004

Monasteries of the Old Ras region in Serbia were subject of the archiving in 2004. Monastery Sopocani, Djurdjevi Stupovi, and St Peter's Church around Novi Pazar were archived in July of 2004.

Participation in the "UNESCO Adriatic Sites - Siti UNESCO dell'Adriatico" project funded by EU Interreg III funds. Project partners: Provincia di Ferrara (Italy), Regione Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Municipalita' di Ravenna (Italy), Federal Institute for the Protection of Monuments (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Institute for the Protection of Nature (Montenegro), Regional Institute for the Protection Cultural Heritage, Kotor (Montenegro), Cultural Heritage Dept. within the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports (Albania), City of Dubrovnik (Croatia).

Young talents from the Academy of Applied Arts received BLAGO Awards at the graduating exhibition.

2003

In 2003 the BLAGO Fund focused to the Serbian cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija. Monastery Gracanica was the first one added to the archive. Kodak DCS 14n camera was used for digital photos in 14Mpx resolution.

2002

Archive of the King's Church in Studenica was created in July of 2002. Nikon F5 was used for slide pictures, and Fuji FinePix S2 for digital. The archive can be seen here. Pictures of the St Sava's upper sanctuary can also be seen.

2001

BLAGO created a special fundraiser and undertook an effort of fresco restoration in Monastery Mileseva. Frescoes "White Angle", "The Last Sapper", and "Nemanjic Dynasty" are restored. A special gallery of this effort can be found here.

2000

Monastery Mileseva was archived in July of 2000. The very same equipment was used here as in Ravanica. Mileseva archive can be found here.

1999

Second BLAGO fundraiser canceled due to the NATO bombing of Serbia.

Special performance of students of Academy of Music in Belgrade.

1998

First BLAGO fundraiser in San Francisco.
